Parròquia de Sant Agustí, Barcelona
The old convent of San Agustín, located in the Ribera neighborhood, was partially destroyed in 1718 as a result of the construction of the Citadel fortress, after the triumph of the Bourbon cause in the War of the Spanish Succession. A new convent and church were then built in the Raval, between Hospital and San Pablo streets. The original project was by the French military engineer Alexandre de Retz, in neoclassical style, but the construction was carried out by the master-builder Pere Bertran. The first plans, from 1728, were signed by Pere Bertran, Fray Agustí Minvart, Fray Antonio Mora, and Francisco Torrents. The first stone of the new convent of San Agustín was laid on December 12, 1728. In 1739 Pau Trullàs took over the works. The facade of the church was designed by Pere Costa in 1735. The church was inaugurated in 1760.
